What is Ergonomics

Ergonomics is the applied science of equipment design and/or workplace design, intended to maximize productivity by reducing operator fatigue and discomfort. Also called biotechnology, human engineering, human factors engineering.

Ergonomics includes the following characteristics:

  • Science of fitting jobs and tools to people

  • Encompasses the workstation, tools and work-flow design

  • Prevents discomfort and injury associated with repetitive motions, unchanging and/or poor postures, and forceful motions or grips on objects

Services Offered

  • Ergo iSEAT, powered by Cardinus
    • The online training allows us to identify your risks, automate injury prevention activities and track and analyze your results.
  • Individual Office Ergonomic Assessments 
    • A comprehensive onsite evaluation of an employee's computer workstation

  • Ergonomic Office Product Catalog or Laboratory Product Catalog
  • Matching Funds for recommended and approved ergonomic equipment
    • To help departments offset the cost of implementing recommended or approved office ergonomic equipment for UCR staff and faculty*

  •  Department or Large Group Training – Smart  Body Management
